Diagnosing Hidden Problems with Main Line Air Conditioning

by | Mar 28, 2013 | Heating and Air Conditioning

If you have had the same Main Line air conditioning device in your home for a number of years, the machine could be at risk of problems. The older the device, the more the Main Line air conditioning will have been used and this means that wear and tear could cause certain parts to erode or break completely. Heating and cooling is relied on throughout the year, therefore you will be hit hard when your machine fails to work. Increased energy usage and expensive repair bills will drain your bank balance unless you use the following tips to diagnose concealed issues with Main Line air conditioning.

Look for Blown Fuse

One of the most common reasons for problems with Main Line air conditioning is a blown fuse. This is quite an easy problem to fix but if ignored, you could be using mounds of energy unnecessarily. Before you contact a technician take the time to look for a blown fuse because this could save you and the technician a lot of hassle. Locate the fuse box and replace the blown fuse if this is the cause of the problem. You may also want to reset the circuit breaker if replacing the blown fuse does not work.

Check for Frost Build-Up

Does your device still seem to be playing up even though you have changed the fuse? If you answered ‘yes’ to this question it is likely that frost build-up has occurred. Main Line air conditioning can become very cold and when this happens, frost will accumulate on the unit itself. Do not try to scrape the frost off the components because this may cause long-term damage. Instead, switch the AC system off at the electrical source and as the temperature begins to change, the frost will start to melt. While the system is off, wipe debris, dust or dirt off the fan blades.

Clean Dirty Parts

Dirt is a main cause of air conditioner problems and cleaning the components is more important than you think. If you are recently noticing dust and particles floating around the air inside your property, the air quality has probably diminished because of dirt on the ducts. You can hire a professional to clean these for you and it is also worth cleaning or replacing the filters at the same time. By doing this, the filter will allow clean air to travel through the system and as a result, the air quality will improve.

By taking the time to follow certain steps and find a cause, you can get repairs completed for your main line air conditioning system. Has your device given up on you? In that case, with the correct installation you can expect the device to work properly for over 10 years.
